I am a plus sized girl who loves to travel. How plus sized? Well, it’s fluctuated over the years, but I’ve never travelled smaller than a size 18 and I am currently a size 28. At this current size I’ve created some of my most beloved travel memories and plan on continuing to trek this planet.
My goals with this blog is to inspire other plus sized folks to follow their dreams of travelling this beautiful world, provide information that some might be too shy to ask about and to be as helpful as I can for my fellow plus sized travelers.
I’m not a professional writer and cannot be convinced to use the oxford comma. If that is ok with you, then I invite you to join me on my travels past, present and future. If that is not ok with you, I hope you can squint your eyes and see past these things, because I really want you to go all of the places on your bucket list.
So – it’s an introduction, so let me introduce myself. My name is Lauren and I currently live in Hawaii on the island of Maui. I’ve lived here for a little over 2 years and currently work in the travel industry as a concierge for a wonderful company. I spent the previous decade of my life in Southern California. Mainly I lived in Los Angeles and worked in the entertainment industry, but I grew up in North County San Diego.
I caught the travel bug late in life. It wasn’t until I was 26 that I actually made my first big trip and I ‘ve been hooked ever since. I’ve run into some trepidation while traveling and I get anxious and nervous before trying something new. “What if my size gets in the way”? “What if the chair breaks”? “Is there a weight limit”? In the past I have occasionally let these questions stop me from traveling. For the most part, however, I’ve taken the leap and had a great time.
I have some friends that will also be contributing to the content here with their experiences. It takes a village, right?
I hope this blog finds you – on the brink of booking something, but maybe a bit too scared. And I hope it helps you plan around practical issues and avoid unnecessary stress and actually follow through with that trip.
My pledge to you is to be honest and compassionate – yet real. I’ll say some things you don’t want to hear, but hopefully the good will outweigh the bad.
Oh yeah. Most importantly – I am a geek. A great deal of my travel has been focused around my fandoms. So fans of Harry Potter, BBC Sherlock, Doctor Who and Anne of Green Gables among others – this blog will be extra, extra helpful!

thank you for your blog.
I too travel, and find some of the “problems” you write about.
I gave up finding som outdoor clothes in Switzerland, norway, austria and anywhere else for that matter.
It really is true. carry everything you need. I remember going to New York. And I thought it was gonna be so much easier. Not so much.
I hike, camp and do overlanding holidays. And still people think, can you do that?
Yes I can.
so again.. Thank you!
